Corporate America just called and told me they'll take an order of as many of the latter as you can round up.

Its obvious the team is very passionate about what they do. I wish I could say the same about what I do for a living.

Row row fight the power? Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Anyways, people that don't care (or are idiots) usually shout the loudest, nothing to see here, keep moving folks.

Wonder what the changes are, I get done with all my exams Thursday as well, so definitely something to look forward to during the weekend.

Wow, just wow. Would love a poll of people on this site that actually work in jobs that have CONSEQUENCES. Real consequences. Maybe then some of you would understand that making mistakes is bad. That in today's environment FATIGUE is no longer an excuse.

I am an office worker, yet my job is classified as safety critical. What this means is that if I make a mistake in the office while doing my job PEOPLE CAN DIE. Assets get ruined - assets worth millions of dollars. But these are nothing compared to the lawsuits from the grieving families. If I make a critical mistake I will be charged with manslaughter. Just the same as if you drive when you are tired and kill someone in another car, you are also charged with manslaughter. Driving tired is not something you do, so why should someone WORK tired.

True, Lindsey does not work in my field, but let's get a little creative here and think of what could happen if she makes a mistake.

- The update flat doesn't work.
- The update makes the servers volunerable to hackers.
- The update makes our account information easily accessible.
- The update crashes the servers leaving us unable to access the game for days while they sort it out.
- Unhappy customers.
- Server roll backs.
- The update deletes our accounts, or even just random toons.
- The update results in random bans.

Now before any of you say none of the above can't possibly happen, I suggest you get a clue about software programming. Small changes can have large unexpected effects. Some code is not stable when processing numbers 0 through to 2 and can crash the computer they are running on. In a program of hundreds of lines it can be incredibly difficult to debug a "program stopping" error. Sometimes whatever interface you are using (ie MS visual studio) does NOT pick up the error.

Just because Lindsey sits in front of a computer all day doesn't make her immune from the effects of fatigue. It doesn't make her immune from making mistakes. Sure, her mistakes aren't likely to kill anyone, but they will make a lot of people very, very unhappy, and if bad enough cost her her job.

I see many of you practically saying you won't accept anything less than perfect, yet you whinge that it might be late, when it is going to be late in an effort to make it "perfect" for you.

Grow up. Delays happen. In EVERY industry. Delays happen because of QA, because today's industry does not accept fatigue or deadlines as an excuse for the consequences of BAD WORK.

Get a sleeping bag in your office, lots of red bull and go go go!

Now if they were actually working a physically difficult job like construction or shelf stacking, working evenings and weekends 7 days a week would become impossible. They have a pish easy job they can spend all day working on it if they want people playing their game, every other game developer does just that without complaining.

Anet employees sound like they would be useless in my supermarket stacking shelves.
Ironically, your insights into the demands of being a software developer sound like you would be useless for any job other than stacking shelves at a supermarket.

Shame how there's never a discussion on Guru. It's always in some form of nagging, whether it be on arenanet or other players.

Yes. Because it is.

I don't give a damn how much an update is delayed, so long as its done right. That goes the same for GW2. Take your time guys, and just block out idiots like the above. (Not Avarre, sillies! Listen to him.)

I, for one, am grateful for the time Linsey and her team has put into this update. If by chance she reads this portion of this topic, I hope she ignores the ignorant comments by the drooling window-lickers of the thread. For those of you who think coding is easier than a physically taxing job; Mentally taxing jobs are MUCH harder than physically taxing jobs in my opinion. I've done both.

These people probably just want to make sure that the update will work for all accounts.

People who got like 5000+ points on chesthunter for instance, don’t want to end up with 200 chests account wide. Testing prevents mishaps like that.

Of course I’m also interested in what the update brings. But rushing the update would apparently mean risking that things might get messed up. They just need the time to NOT let that happen. I respect that approach more then that they rush & [frenzy] it.

Good prepared update beats “go go go! Rush Rush Update” any day.

I just want to say Thanks to Anet for keeping up the good work, Someone will always find flaws in something. Rest assured there are more people that don't say anything and are GRATEFUL for the efforts put forth.

#1 The people working on these updates get paid right? Last time I checked people don't volunteer to do that kind of work for free...

#2 I don't see all of us giving Anet money every month so that means Anet is spending money on these updates while not recieving its monthly fee from users...

I hear WoW stories where there are classes that are virtually unplayable without an interface mod. AND THEY PAY A MONTHLY FEE! WoW Still can't get it right they have to rely on mods to make the game playable...

The point... If you don't like it stop bitching and go play something else if your still here appreciate the work being done and once in a while get off your high horse and THANK someone for making a good game!

@ Lady Lozza ==== THANK YOU for trying to put real life into perspective!

Fully agree, considering I'm in bio research. Some days I just want to cut sample slices and stock stuff just because I don't have to think about anything while doing them.

You're an idiot. It's not being harsh, if you're so stressed out, overworked and not getting any enjoyment from your job then you need to think of changign your career or what aspect you're working in. Finding developing too hard? Move to community support...

Let's not forget that ANet decides what they expect of their employees, not some random assortment of peanut gallery luminaries on a fan forum.

bhavv - There is such thing as mental strain, which is 90% of the burnout from a computer programmer. Other 10% is carpal tunnel/arthritis.

But seriously have you actually stared at a computer screen for 10 hours straight AND actually used your brain to try and solve logic problems all day. 'Cuz thats all computer programming is, and there's no half assing computer code and having it work right either. They are probably compiling code, testing it, having something go wrong and having to debug from the beginning of their changes again.

Esp with the merging of the treasure/wisdom and changes to the Faction titles. If they don't get it right the first time, they have to roll EVERYONE back. Fix it, release another build and hope they get it right. And pretty much gimping everyone of playing time. If it where just skill bugs, they can always release new builds that just update the skill and harm no one. Well cept for interuptting RA/TA/HA win streaks, but after a few years we should have all gotten over that. But with this they need to get it right on the first run.

But even if they don't, you know they will be fully backing up all server data just incase. But really a rollback is they last thing they want to deal with on top of fixing a new build.
